François Hollande suggests drafting new bill on genocides after presidential elections in France

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 29, ARMENPRESS: The bill penalizing the denial of genocides was called to reconcile the Armenian and Turkish communities but it was presented in inappropriate time, François Hollande, the French socialist candidate for the presidential elections said, Armenpress reports citing French Le Monde.

"I regret that the Constitutional Council made such decision. It is also regrettable that the Turkish community perceived the bill with hostility," Hollande said.

The presidential candidate also noted that the discussions over the new bill should launch after May 6, when the presidential elections in France will be over. "We will start discussions in a more calm and safe atmosphere," Hollande added.

On February 28 the Constitutional Council of France recognized the bill authored by Valerie Boyer on criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide unconstitutional. President of France Nicolas Sarkozy tasked to draft a new bill on penalizing the Armenian genocide.
