French-Armenians have positive expectations from the decision of Constitutional Council of France

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 28, ARMENPRESS: The expectations from the final verdict of the Constitutional Court of France on the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide are not distinct. "We cannot unequivocally say what will happen. Surely, we wait for a positive solution," Hrach Varzhapetyan, head of the Armenian Cause Office in Paris, told Armenpress.
He said the same is with the position of the members of the council: nothing can be said distinctly. The part of the Constitutional Council is against that bill, and the others apparently stand up for it. According to Mr. Varzhapetyan, this issue needs practical approach.
"Practical approach is constitutional, as this law has been drafted by constitution specialists," he said. Hrach Varzhapetyan stressed that if a verdict on the law's being anti-constitutional is adopted, it will mean that subjective and political approaches have been shown and not a practical one, which the Constitutional Council must do.
Armenpress reported earlier that Constitutional Council will present its opinion on the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide on February 28, 20:00 pm.
