Russia may become WTO member by the end of 2011

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 28, ARMENPRESS:

Georgia is ready to agree to Russia's membership to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in case the latter accepts the proposals worked out by Swiss brokers. These proposals refer to the exchange of electronic information between Russia and Georgia on South Ossete and Abkhazian border sectors. Interfax news agency reports that, deputy foreign minister of Georgia Tornike Gordadze stated at a briefing that "Georgia has agreed to the proposal of mutual concessions presented by the Swiss party and gives its consent to Russia's membership to the WTO".

The variant of mutual concessions supposes implementation of international monitoring of all the cargos transported via internationally recognized borders of Russia and Georgia.

Moscow has not yet given official response. If the parties reach agreement, the decision on Russia's membership to the WTO may be made till November 10.
