Karen Bekaryan: Status of non-permanent member of the UN SC not to give any privilege to Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 25, ARMENPRESS:

The efforts of Azerbaijan toward getting the status of non-permanent member of the UN Security Council ended with success but what it will give to Aliyev's clan is already another issue, head of the "European Integration" NGO, political analyst Karen Bekaryan told a news conference today, assuring that essentially, it will not give any privilege to that country.

"As permanent member of the UN Azerbaijan may forward resolutions without having status of non-permanent member of the Security Council, at the same time five permanent members have important role in the Security Council, three of which are the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries. Thus, waiting for additional source of impact with this new status is impossible," the political analyst said, adding that the OSCE Minsk Group has already expressed its opinion over the Azerbaijan's initiative to change the format.

"There are two positive sides in this issue: one of them is positive for us, the other for Azerbaijan. The whole goal of becoming non-permanent member was reached for one simple reason to present Azerbaijan in front of the international community as a reinforced state, to show to the inner audience that they reach only victories in the diplomatic arena," Karen Bekaryan said, adding that the positive thing for Armenia is that Azerbaijan has spent huge sums of money giving bribes to developing states. "It is clear that the Aliyev's clan has not spent money from its own pocket but invested from Azerbaijan's state budget. Thanks to it, Azerbaijan is just spending great amount of money ignoring its military budget and other important spheres that might have harmed Armenia," Bekaryan said.
