William Burns: NK issue does not have a military solution

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 20, ARMENPRESS:

Nagorno Karabakh issue does not have a military solution, US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns told today a news conference in Yerevan, stressing that in this issue the status-quo cannot be maintained any more.

According to him, Washington's approach to Nagorno Karabakh issue is unchangeable – settlement only in peaceful way and within OSCE Minsk Group format. "The USA continues to remain faithful to its role as Minsk Group Co-Chair," Mr. Burns said, adding that the USA efficiently works with the other co-chairs – Russia and France as well. He also reconfirmed the US readiness to do its best in order the issue finds a peaceful solution.

Referring to the regulation process of Armenian-Turkish relations, Mr. Burns stressed that Washington highly assesses Armenia's commitment to regulate the relations with Turkey. "The ratification of the Armenia-Turkish Protocols will promote regional development," he added.
