62% growth registered in August in agricultural sphere

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 12, ARMENPRESS:

As compared with August 2010 this year in August 62% growth was registered in the sphere of agriculture, minister Sergo Karapetyan told a news conference today. He said the biggest achievement during the 9 months was the increase of the production of seeds. "We had an unprecedented result which is the outcome of the seed breeding program of the Armenian government for 2010-2014".

The minister said last year they imported 950 tons of elite seeds as a result of which 90 000 tons of harvest has been gathered. Sergo Karapetyan said this year September 20 another 1150 tons of seeds were imported from Russia and distributed to the provinces. The minister assured that this year about 17 thousand ha wheat winter crop is expected. "It is an unprecedented program that increased the harvest", the minister said.
