YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS:

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) wraps up its four-year program on Mobilizing Action against Corruption (MAAC) Activity. MAAC Chief of Party François Vézina told a press conference that their program laid a serious basis for implementation of actions by the government and NGOs in the upcoming millennium.

"The fact that profit defense and support centers signed agreements with mayor's offices, governor houses and other state structures, says that society is ready to fight against corruption. At this moment society has a better idea of corruption, realizes that it is bad and it cannot be tolerated," Mr. Vézina said.

Stephen Brager, head of Democracy and Governance Office, USAID Armenia, said that 10 million USD has been allocated for implementation of the program. "The establishment of profit defense and support centers is the biggest heritage of the program," he said, simultaneously informing that the USAID has decided to continue the support, and a grant of nearly 600 thousand USD will be extended to profit defense and support centers in 10 provinces through Young Lawyers Association.

There is not a single sphere, which we can say is the most corrupted, but we may state that the most part of the received complaints concern the property right," Mr. Brager noted, adding that they are satisfied with the implemented works but working in anticorruption sphere may arise disappointment, as many profits clash.
