Narek Galstyan: intensification of the activity of the EU does not suppose change in the format of negotiations over the Karabakh conflict settlement

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS:

The intensification of the activity of the European Union does not suppose any change in the format of negotiations over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, political analyst Narek Galstyan told a news conference today.

"Such statements are not novelties. During the past years the EU officials have always mentioned their interest in the regulation of regional military-political processes", Galstyan said. According to him, the EU has interests in the South Caucasus connected with satisfaction of energy demands which relates to the transit of energy resources from Central Asia through the territory of the South Caucasus. From this viewpoint the EU is interested in establishment of stability and peace in the region.

"Taking into consideration the situation dominating in the South Caucasus the assessments relating to Azerbaijan are rather smooth. Let's hope that the EU in parallel with its statements will increase the pressure on Azerbaijani authorities to loose somehow the "zombi" process of its people", Galstyan stressed.

The political analyst noted that the EU may have positive impact on the conflict settlement not dealing personally with the issue but creating conditions to solve the issues between the two countries.
