Kirsan Ilyumzhinov says victories of Armenian chess team in international tournaments to become a regularity

Many countries discuss the issue of making chess as obligatory subject in secondary schools, but only unique confirmed their wish in practice and Armenia is among the first, Chairman of the International Chess Federation Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said speaking to Armenpress' Moscow correspondent. He said currently FIDE is discussing with Armenia issues on opening of international chess school, implementation of joint big chess events.

Speaking about the victory of Armenia's chess team in Ningbo, Ilyumzhinov highly praised the role of the President of Armenia and Armenia's Chess Federation Serzh Sargsyan in the victory of the Armenian team. "Twice, one after another, Armenia became Olympic champion, and Serzh Sargsyan personally came to Turin and Dresden and stood by the side of the team", he said, adding that the victories of the Armenian chess team in international tournaments will become a regularity.
