UK FCO: Armenia to have 2 new excellent ambassadors

YEREVAN, AUGUST 24, ARMENPRESS:

"The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has many talented and experienced senior diplomats and some of them are married to each other. The FCO has been posting married diplomats at Ambassadorial level around the world for years and has found joint postings or neighboring postings to be very successful, the UK FCO told Armenpress in answer to the agency's question on how the Office will respond to the publication posted in "The Daily Mail" that appointment of two ambassadors in Armenia proves about negative shifts in Armenian-British bilateral relations.

''Joint postings are a modern way of working which helps the FCO deliver the best possible diplomatic service in the host country and in this case the Armenians are getting two excellent diplomats who will work very hard to continue the friendly, positive relationship we have as countries," the statement provided by the UK MFA runs.

Jonathan James Aves and Katherine Jane Leach, a husband and wife team, have been appointed Her Majesty's Joint Ambassadors to the Republic of Armenia. They will take up their appointment during January 2012. Yerevan will be the permanent resident of Mr Aves and Ms Leach. They will alternate in exercising the functions of Ambassador on a four-monthly rotation.
