YEREVAN, AUGUST 10, ARMENPRESS:
President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev's meeting with the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan show that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries, and Russia among them, are interested in maintaining peace, according to Davit Babayan, head of the central information department of the Office of Artsakh Republic President.
Referring to the 2008 Georgia-Ossetia armed conflict as an example, the Russian president said endless talks are even preferable than military actions. "There is some serious logic, as the war actions generally will have unpredictable consequences and will involve not only the parties – Artsakh and Azerbaijan – but also a number of other countries. In such case, no one at the moment wants to enter into war actions. This was the key topic of Medvedev and Aliev's meeting," Davit Babayan said. He added that it was necessary to show Aliev once again that war is not considered by the international community a variant for the resolution to the issue.
He says bilateral, trilateral meetings of the presidents are expected in the near future, "yet it is too early to say that they will lead to a final management of the conflict". "There will be a number of meetings aimed at maintaining the peace process, status quo, as long as there is no any realer variant, that will serve as a basis for undertaking steps for the resolution to the issue," Davit Babayan said.
