Turkologist says Armenia many times proved its willingness to establish peace in the region

Armenia has many times proved that it is ready to promote the establishment of peace in the region, Turkologist Ruben Melkonyan said speaking to Armenpress, commenting on the statement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry that as soon as the establishment of peace in the region becomes possible, Serzh Sargsyan's statements proof that he is not going to work for peace".

"It does not correspond to reality. Armenia has always wished to establish peace in the region. Turkey has many times showed the opposite and it may be witnessed by the failure of the Armenian-Turkish protocols", Melkonyan said.

He noted that President Serzh Sargsyan, in response to the questions of participants of Pan-Armenian Olympiad gave quite literate and correct assessments. As to the Turkish response, it is natural, as in his statement the RA president touched the most sensitive points for them.

The Turkologist said Turkey does not have right to make such statements as its whole educational system has drowned in the hostility toward other states and nations. "If we view the Turkish text-books we will see that Armenians, Greeks are presented as their worst enemies. It means that they are propagating hostility on a state level. Thus they not only fail to succeed in giving lessons of democracy but it does not link with their character at all", Melkonyan said.
