Contract Marriages Not Topical in Armenia

In many countries of the world marriage contract is usual. With such a contract newly-formed families tend to refrain from possible unpleasant surprises.

The RA law on marriage contracts was adopted 1999, however this is not topical in our society. An official from the Justice Ministry told Armenpress that a few people apply to notary offices for signing a marriage contract.

According to Karine Nalchajyan, psychologist, the phenomenon is against the perceptions in the Armenian society, yet "it is appropriate to give a legal force to relations". The psychologist says marriage contract will just increase the mutual trust. She added that peoples having traditional and conservative views need time to get rid of some complexes and to form legal consciousness.
