Armenian historic monuments in Iran in good condition

YEREVAN, JULY 25, ARMENPRESS:

The non-governmental organization studying Armenian architecture visited June 10-July 10 Iran to study the Armenian historic monuments in the northern part of the country. President of the organization Samvel Karapetyan said at a news conference today that the expedition group has made studies in five settlements. "The total number of the Armenian monuments the photos of which were possible to take passes 4500, only in 4 settlements, as we have not succeeded to make thorough studies in Urmia. The situation of monuments may be considered good. The care of the state toward them may also be assessed as satisfactory", Karapetyan said. Adding that the mistakes appeared as a result of renovation are agreed with misunderstanding and accidents.

According to him, the Armenian colonies are mainly settled by Kurds and Azerbaijanis, especially Gharadagh, which is fully inhabited by Azerbaijanis. "Only here certain hostility toward Armenians was possible to notice, as here the Azerbaijani propaganda is being spread", Karapetyan said.

The research and photos of the expedition will be gathered in a separate manual.
