YEREVAN, JULY 22, ARMENPRESS:
According to the statistical services, as compared with the 2008-2009, the cases of trafficking and exploitation has reduced and particularly the cases of transportation of women to Turkey, head of the RA Police department of fighting against organized crime and trafficking Tigran Petrosyan told a news conference today.
Referring to the cases of reduction of cases, Petrosyan agreed it with the application of corresponding punitive measures against the criminals. The amendments made in the Criminal Code entered into force from April 9, 2011.
He said three years ago 11 persons have been convicted, sentenced to averagely to 8 years 7 months of imprisonment. This year, according to him, during the first half of the year four people have been convicted to 7 years of imprisonment.
Speaking about the report of the US Department of State, which has referred to the work carried out by the RA police for revealing cases of trafficking, the police official said he flaws are much more in reality. "If we assess our work, we will find more flaws than registered in the report", Petrosyan said.
