YEREVAN, JUNE 30, ARMENPRESS:

"Migration as a challenge for local and regional authorities" conference was conducted today in Yerevan within the framework of the sitting of the committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. Representatives of the corresponding bodies, international experts on migration affairs participated in the event.

"The issue relates to the migration challenges the local and regional authorities are facing. It is necessary to clarify in what way the responsibility must be distributed so that the issues of migrants be solved", Emin Yeritsyan, chairman of the committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe noted. From the existing issues he pointed out the integration into the society, getting use of the political rights, engagement in the social programs, etc.

Deputy head of the State Migration Service of the Territorial Administration Ministry Irina Davtyan noted that the issues relating to migration are a lot.

"The most important issue for the refugees migrated from Azerbaijan is ensuring them with apartments. This issue is not currently solved. The second issue is the issues of our citizens – working migrants. They mainly are staying abroad illegally", Davtyan said.

Speaking about working migrants Davtyan said 94% of them depart for Russia as they know the language, find job there easily. Besides Russia, people are also leaving for Ukraine, Belarus, a small number to the United States and European countries.

In response to whether working migrants are coming to Armenia, Irina Davtyan said it is a painful issue as there is no registration on how many people are coming to Armenia and what they work. According to general information, mainly compatriots from Georgia and citizens of Iran are coming to Armenia.

On the eve the outgoing sitting of the committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe started its work in Yerevan at the invitation of the Armenian party.
