US Trafficking in Persons Report Calls on Armenia to Exert More Efforts

YEREVAN, JUNE 30, ARMENPRESS:

The US Government's Trafficking in Persons Report calls on Armenia to exert more efforts in the direction of revealing trafficking victims, according to Vahram Kajoyan, head of the International Organizations Department of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the inter-institutional working group affiliated to the council on trafficking in persons.

Vahram Kajoyan said today at a news conference that the state budget allocates 6 million 200 thousand AMD annually for the recovery of trafficking victims. Two public shelters for the protection of trafficking victims are available in Armenia.

The speaker says the annual Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP), published June 28, includes information on Armenia. The TIP, which is considered world's most comprehensive resource of governmental anti-human trafficking efforts, endeavors to engage foreign governments in dialogues to advance anti-trafficking reforms and to combat trafficking, target resources on prevention, protection and prosecution programs.

Vahram Kajoyan said the ministry does not own the 2011 statistical data. According to the 2010 data, 4 cases against 6 persons on sexual trafficking were tried in court and there was no any case on labor trafficking.

Vahram Kajoyan says talks and discussions with the US side are organized regularly.
