Davit Jamalyan: “Our Advantage is based on Today’s Front Line Configuration”

A considerable part of Azerbaijan's budget will be spent on navy, according to Davit Jamalyan, military expert, member of the RA Defense Ministry-affiliated Public Council.

Today in an interview with Armenpress Davit Jamalyan commented on the statements, according to which the superiority of Azerbaijan's military budget ensures an advantage for the country. "When speaking on military budget, we should take into account the fact that Azerbaijan spends financial means for its navy as well. In the Caspian Sea it has serious conflict of interests with Iran, Turkmenistan and it must keep a powerful navy there to protect its economic interests," Davit Jamalyan said.

He says this requires great means. "What remains after the navy expenses, actually, cannot ensure drastic military superiority over us. Our advantage is based on today's front line configuration. The Artsakh Republic with its 12 000 sq km gives us a great strategic advantage and a great opportunity of active defense," the military expert said. He says in case suddenly Azerbaijan exercises military adventure, "we will be able to use the strategic advantage our territories grant".

"I think people in Azerbaijan understand very well that the possible war, about which they often speak, is full of potential risks firstly directed against them. We have always chosen the strategy of asymmetric response, which will allow to keep the balance of the forces on a proper level," the expert said.
