Martin Vardazaryan: “Occupation Helps One Understand the Real Volume of His Capacity”

Within the framework of the "Music Planet" program, the pupils of Yerevan Musical School after Sayat-Nova met with Martin Vardazaryan, composer, RA Honored Artist, Honored Citizen of Yerevan. Norayr Zoryan and Nina Gharibyan, top class pupils of the school, asked the composer questions.

- Mr. Vardazaryan, you have many titles and the spectrum of your pedagogical, public activity is wide, so one may wonder how you manage this all?

- If one does not have occupation, he will not manage anything. When you have some occupation, you are needed, your are in demand. I remember once I was offered to compose music for "Qaj Nazar" and 'Macbeth". Though they were in extreme poles – comedy and drama – I managed to do both in a month. Maybe if I composed them separately, I would manage none of them in two months. So, occupation helps one understand the real volume of his capacity. This refers to both physical capacity and the way of thinking.

- Mr. Vardazaryan, were you lazy in your childhood years?

- Laziness is a force, which promotes the human progress, as people do everything not to do anything. All the inventions are intended to help one not to do anything.

- There is a notion that it is difficult to create for children. Do you agree with this?

- One shall write for children the way he writes for adults, just better. Actually it is not difficult to create for children, in case you can become a child, in case you feel like a child.

- Who is the first listener and critic of your creations?

- Naturally the first listener of my creations is my spouse. The most important fact is that you should trust the first listener so much, as he or she may flatter or lie, which is not a preferable variant.

- Would you change anything in your life if there was such an opportunity? If there were a magic wand what would you like to happen?

I would like everything but losses to repeat again.
