Expert: Deauville statement clearly states principle of non-usage of force

YEREVAN, MAY 27, ARMENPRESS:

The Deauville statement of the leaders of the OSCE Minsk group co-chairing countries, unlike the statements of L'Aquila and Muskoka, has new elements, political analyst Karen Bekaryan said, adding that with this statement the co-chairs expect from the conflicting parties to end the work on the principles of the Karabakh settlement. "In the former statements they were urging to speed-up the tempo. At least in this case there is a big wish of signing document on basic principles in June", he said.

He noted there was no element of pressure and the latter clearly states that the current format is the best and justified way for the settlement of the conflict. "This statement clearly states the principle of non-usage of force. It mainly relates to Azerbaijan as Armenia has not threatened with war", Bekaryan said.

According to him, with this statement they urge the parties prepare their societies for peace and not war.
