YEREVAN, MAY 16, ARMENPRESS:
Member of the Armenian Republican party's faction Gagik Melikyan said he welcomes the authorities-opposition dialogue. Speaking to reporters today he said the dialogue was accepted by international organizations, our public. "Only those political forces expressed complaint for who a difficult situation may be created at the coming parliamentary elections", Melikyan said.
The parliamentarian said after the presidential elections in 2008 a rather tensed situation was created. The Armenian National Congress was insisting that Levon Ter-Petrosyan was elected the president. "They were undertaking illegal, anti-Constitutional steps. As a result a rather fragile situation was created full of dangerous consequences. It is necessary to register that as a result of steps undertaken by President Serzh Sargsyan the situation loosened", Melikyan said. According to him, the president invited all the political forces – oppositional, parliamentary to discuss foreign and inner political issues. The parliamentarian noted that at first the ANC leaders were rejecting the call for dialogue but the wisdom won and gave positive results.
Referring to the talks that it is possible that on May 28 the people arrested as a result of March 1 unrest may be set free, Melikyan said that it is a legal issue and discussions must be held on that platform.
