Variants of Drawing Financial Means for Iran-Armenia Railway’s Construction Discussed

YEREVAN, APRIL 28, ARMENPRESS:

The variants of drawing financial means for the construction of the Iran-Armenia railway were discussed today at the meeting of RA Ambassador to Iran Grigor Arakelyan and Reza Pilpaye, Iran's deputy minister of roads and transportation.

Ambassador Grigor Arakelyan said today in an interview with Armenpress that the willingness of Irani companies to form a consortium and partake in the financing was touched upon. "The consortium may be open for involving stakeholder companies from other states," the ambassador said.

The Irani mass media published yesterday a statement by Deputy Minister Reza Pilpaye that "Irani companies will form a consortium to connect the Armenian railway net to international waters through Iran". Reza Pilpaye said the two parties signed a memorandum of mutual understanding, with the implementation of which the Armenian railway net will be connected to the international water through the Port of Bandar Abbas. According to the deputy minister, Irani companies are ready to partake in the construction of the highway, which will connect Iran with Georgia.

Ambassador Grigor Arakelyan said the whole package of projects on the development of the Armenian-Irani bilateral economic relations will be a subject of discussion during the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental committee's next session, which will be convoked late May in Tehran.
