Number of Juvenile Delinquents Decreases Year by Year

In 2010 the number of the crimes committed by juveniles decreased against 2009 by 21, and the number of juvenile delinquents – by 26," according to Nelli Duryan, deputy head of the 3rd department of the RA Police Criminal Investigation General Department.

She said today at a meeting with journalists that the number of crimes by juveniles peaked in 1997. Since then the number has been decreasing gradually "due to the fact that rehabilitation works are carried out for bringing children back to normal life". As to recidivism, she said since 2007 the number has decreased as well.

Nelli Duryan says not social conditions, but the indifference by parents and the issue of their employment are the main reasons of crimes by juveniles.
