GYUMRI, MARCH 29, ARMENPRESS: On the decision of the Center for Kiev Initiatives, Gyumri has been involved in the range of 10 historical towns of the republic as a model town, where the program “The Restoration of the Cultural Heritage in Historical Towns” will be implemented.
The studies have been conducted by the experts from the Council of Europe and Armenia. Head of the Public Relations Department of the municipality Lilit Aghekyan told Armenpress that a discussion will be held May 22-24 in the town, as a result of which it will be clear what exactly this program suggests.
“This means that Gyumri has become a center of interest not only for us but Europe as well for the very simple reason that the historical buildings have been preserved here. Three years ago the town attracted UNESO too by its historical buildings,” Mrs. Aghekyan said.
According to her, if even those historical structures are provided to the private sector, then only with the condition of preserving their architectural exterior, which proves that Gyumri protects its cultural heritage as a historical town.
