Participants of “Hill of Honor” scientific conference in Gyumri

GYUMRI, MARCH 17, ARMENPRESS: The participants of “Hill of Honor” scientific conference were today in Gyumri. They were first received by Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, after which the guests visited “Hill of Honor” memorial complex symbolizing the Armenian-Russian friendship and paid tribute of honor to the memory of the soldiers and commanders killed in Russian-Turkish war.

Works presenting the tie of Armenian-Russian architecture and construction were presented, the authors of which are students of Yerevan University of Architecture and Construction.

The scientific conference started yesterday on the initiative of the Association of Graduates of Russian higher educational establishments and Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction. It is dedicated to restoration of monuments which present the Russian-Armenian military glory. During the scientific conference the samples of the Russian architecture in the territory of Armenia were presented.

During the meeting with journalists adviser of the Russian Embassy in Armenia Victor Krivopuskov noted that though it is 7 months that the memorial complex has reopened, it is always filled with visitors. It is also symbolic that among the visitors there are many young people, who are the shapers of the future without forgetting about the losses of the past.

The name of the scientific conference has immediate connection with the name of the memorial complex. “The Russian officers killed in the heroic battle of Kars, who were buried there, were fallen into oblivion. In the soviet years even a building was constructed on their tombs.

When an opportunity was afforded, we restored this complex with joint efforts,” rector of Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction Hovhannes Tokmajyan told Armenpress. According to him, these gatherings must become periodical. Visits must be arranged to different provinces of Armenia, and Gyumri, which is well known for its architectural color and style, has a lot of things to teach students.
