YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 10, ARMENPRESS: It is not right to move the regulation process of the Karabakh issue from the format of the OSCE Minsk group, Director of the Caucasus Institute, political specialist Alexander Iskandaryan said today at a meeting with journalists. “By moving the regulation of the issue to other platform just an end will be put to the process,” he said.
Referring to the visit of the Minsk group co-chairs to Armenia, Mr. Iskandaryan noted that we must not look forward to any serious changes; this is just the regular continuation of the process. “That is the very policy implemented by the OSCE Minsk group. In my opinion it is a right policy. It is naivety to expect that the Minsk group will regulate the Karabakh conflict instead of us,” Mr. Iskandaryan noted.
According to the political specialist, the task of the Minsk group is to maintain the regulation process of the Karabakh conflict. The group also wishes to internalize the process as well, in order the representatives of Europe, USA and Russia attend the meetings as well. “Everything is done for maintaining this format, and I think it is right, useful and necessary. The co-chairs do their best to maintain the regulation process of the Karabakh issue. In the other case the situation will worsen,” Mr. Iskandaryan said.
Referring to the last report of the International Crisis Group, the political specialist noted that it is rich in groundings, but they do not correspond to the general conclusions. Mr. Iskandaryan said that he has the impression that the given report intended to ground the possibility of resuming of the war. “Wars resume all at once when there are not controlling forces in the two parties, while in case of the NK conflict the two parties have regular armies with their heads,” the political specialist said.
As for the grounding fixed in the report that the frequent cases of ceasefire regime violation speak about the possibility of war, Mr. Iskandaryan noted that suchlike cases were registered earlier, too, but it has not turned into large-scale military activities.
