YEREVAN, AUGUST 4, ARMENPRESS: Since May, 2010 the ‘Hope for Communities’ NGO has been implementing a project, directed toward reduction of disaster risks, in 10 rural communities of Vayots Dzor province, according to President of ‘Hope for Communities’ NGO Karen Arakelyan.
He said in an interview with Armenpress that their main goal is the assessment of disaster risks in the concrete community and organization of preventive measures with the power of local people.
Karen Arakelyan says 15-member disaster response groups are being formed in the communities. The groups should be able to operate in emergency situations before the arrival of specialists.
‘We are happy that our villagers partake in this project. They gain corresponding skills for operating during disasters and emergency situations,’ said Vardan Nersisyan, participant of the project, head of the community of Khachik village.
The project is financed by the Council of Europe.
