Complex of social apartments expected to be established in Shirak province

YEREVAN, JULY 8, ARMENPRESS: Complex of social apartments is expected to be established in the town of Maralik, Shirak province. The government has earlier adopted the concept on creation of complex of social apartments for homeless single old people, people needing apartments, etc.

Speaking to Armenpress deputy head of the Labor and Social Affairs Ministry’s disabled and old people affairs department Anahit Gevorgyan said that the building intended for 20 families in Maralik is almost ready. There are partially constructed buildings there remained from the soviet times which must be finished and provided to the socially insecure people having apartment issues or single old people. The apartments will be provided with the living term.

The complex will consist of 9 buildings. With the assignment of the prime minister a corresponding commission will be set up to draft the standards with which the apartments will be provided.

“I think first of all we must take into consideration the order of providing the applications, social condition and other circumstances. Many people need apartments but not all agree to move to social house as it is given only with the term of living and not selling,” Anahit Gevorgyan said.

She noted that not only local beneficiaries will settle in Maralik complex but also those of other provinces. Surveys were made in the Armenian provinces to find out how many socially insecure families need apartments.

There are benevolent organizations in the republic carrying out similar programs of ensuring apartments. A. Gevorgyan said it is necessary to cooperate with such organizations to act with joint forces.

Two social houses are functioning in the republic – in Goris – intended for 24 families and in Yerevan for 27 families. Recently in the Kasakh village of Kotayk province another social house was put into exploitation intended for 40 families.
