Cross-stone Dedicated to Adoption of Christianity by Armenian People to be Placed in Aragatsotn Province

YEREVAN, JUNE 29, ARMENPRESS: In the province of Aragatsotn, at a distance of 300 m from the Letters’ Park, a symbolic cross-stone will be placed, dedicated to adoption of Christianity by Armenian people. The initiative of the monument belongs to “Nig-Aparan” patriotic union. Deputy Chairman of the union Tigran Petrosyants noted that a contest has been announced and the cross-stone will be put up on the basis of the winner’s project.
“The construction works are intended to bring to end in 2011, during the 1710th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity. On that very occasion we want to place the cross-stone next year in the province of Aragatsotn,” T. Petrosyants said. The monument must have 33 m height, must be constructed from metal, consist of 1710 cross-stones and must have an open sacristy. According to T. Petrosyants, it will be of significance for tourism, especially that quite a good site has been chosen.
Those who wish to participate in the contest can submit the cross-stone projects till July 10, 2010. The results will be summed up in August. Monetary awards are intended for the authors of the best 3 projects.
