Strengthening of Armenian-Hungarian Ties in Artashat Continued

ARTASHAT, JUNE 3, ARMENPRESS: The delegation of Ararat province has returned the other day from Hungary with a certificate of honor given for the successes registered in strengthening of the Armenian-Hungarian friendship, for extension of activity directed toward the spread of culture of the two countries. The delegation left for Hungary last month at the invitation of the Armenian community, headed by Ashot Hovhannisyan, director of the Artashat out-school center, chairman of “Renaissance and Progress” NGO.

A. Hovhannisyan told Armenpress that representatives of 13 nations who have contributed to development of the Hungarian state are considered national minorities in Hungary. “There this certificate is considered one of the highest awards, which was given to the Armenians by Mayor of the 18th district of Budapest Michel Laslon,” he noted.

The delegation of Ararat province partook in those days in a number of cultural events, May 1 celebrations, in a unique exhibition of tractors, as well as met with Chairman of the Armenian self-government of the 5th district of Budapest Alex Avanesyan.

The Armenian-Hungarian friendly bridge has been officially confirmed in Budapest in 2001 by the mayors of Artashat and of the 18th district of Budapest. Afterward certain works were carried out in the direction of spreading the Hungarian culture, over 100 events were organized – the Day of the Hungarian Cuisine, a theatrical performance, festival of Hungarian songs, a visit to the monument of the Armenian-Hungarian military captives, chess tournament dedicated to the memory of Karo Nazaryan from Artahsat, who was killed during the liberation of Hungary.

A. Hovhannisyan noted that the Consul of Hungary to Armenia, Referent of National Minorities of the municipality of the 18th district Nagi Gulane, Armenian citizen, Hungarian Ilona Olah Melikyan and others constantly support the works directed toward development of the Armenian-Hungarian friendship.
