Russian embassy confirms death of Russian tourist in Goa

NEW DELHI, MARCH 18, ARMENPRESS: The Russian embassy in New Delhi has confirmed the death of a Russian female tourist in the Indian state of Goa, a source in the embassy told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

According to Nana Mgeladze, the embassy’s official representative, Goa police informed the Russian consulate general in Mumbai of the death of a Russian citizen. The woman, 32, was found dead in her hotel room near Apora in Goa’s north. “No traces of violence were found,” Mgeladze stressed and added that the official cause of death would be announced after an autopsy.

The woman was found dead in her hotel room which was locked from inside, a police inspector of the state of Goa, who investigates into the incident, told Itar-Tass. Hotel staff called police after she did not respond to their calls for ten hours. According to the inspector, within the past three days the woman had applied to the first-aid station over acute pain in the stomach and so the death might have been caused by poisoning. The woman arrived in Goa alone.
