Women’s council subordinated to Ararat governor office set up

ARTASHAT, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS: A women’s council subordinated to the governor office is operating in the province of Ararat. Chairwoman of Ararat Province Council of the Armenian Republican Party Sona Poghosyan told Armenpress that about 20 representatives from the Armenian Republican Party, “Orinats Yerkir” party, ARF and “Prosperous Armenia” party are involved at the moment in the women’s council. According to S. Poghosyan, the number of the council members will grow in near future, for there is a goal to involve representatives of non-governmental organizations, too.
The idea of setting up a council was developed by S. Poghosyan, when she partook in 2009 in classes organized in Great Britain by the British Council, got acquainted with the experience of the women engaged in politics there. Governor Vardges Hovakimyan immediately responded to the idea of setting up a council
“I think the council will greatly contribute to give basic solutions to the issues raised by women and exciting them. Women of our province, irrespective to which party they are inclined, are united, and I am sure, together they will give impetus to the solution of urgent issues for women,” he said. The Women’s Council subordinated to the governor office is the first in the republic.
