KAPAN, MARCH 3, ARMENPRESS: Five libraries have been closed in Kapan. Such a decision was adopted by the community council of elders yet in last July.
Consultant to the mayor Karine Hovsepyan told Armenpress that 10 club-libraries will operate in the town hereafter, as well as 3 libraries and one “Memorial Hall of Glory”, the work of which will be coordinated by the newly established “Club-library Union”. A commission has been already set up, which has implemented the calculation of the inventory of the libraries and clubs and will soon calculate the material-technical base of the book fund and libraries as well.
The reason of closing libraries in Kapan, according to Karine Hovsepyan, is the restricted means of the municipality. The libraries of Halidzor, Garegin Nzhdeh, Mushegh Harutyunyan, Rafael Minasyan and Hunan Avetisyan districts have been closed, for the territory they occupy is in poor conditions and needs repair.
The consultant to the mayor assured that none of the 12 employees of the closed libraries have been dismissed. They have been transferred to other libraries. The territories of the former libraries will not be privatized; they will remain as the property of the community and will be used for their needs.
The territories of the operating libraries are intended to repair and equip with up-to-date computer engineering in near future, and the town’s central library is planned to turn into a children’s library.
