YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 22, ARMENPRESS: On the decision of the Armenian government, Jermuk town will become a resort of international significance. The cost of the program is 200 thousand USD, the part of which will be invested by the Armenian government. Armenian Economy Minister Nerses Yeritsyan noted today at a meeting with journalists that distinct steps are already being undertaken toward that direction. On February 8-11, the delegation headed by the minister visited Switzerland, Verbier, got acquainted with the Swiss experience in the sphere of tourism, visited SPA halls, mountain-skiing centers, the local airport and got interested in the activity of garbage procession.
The minister said that according to a contract with Switzerland, a funicular railway of 2-3 km length, which has been exploited for 10 years, will be obtained for Jermuk from that country. The minister illustrated that the circumstance of removing it is not conditioned by its age, but just another infrastructure is intended to set up in its place. “The standard has changed in Switzerland in the last 10 years, and not to make use of it, I think, is illogical,” N. Yeritsyan.
Speaking of investment volumes, N. Yerisyan noted that after getting acquainted with the Swiss experience in that sphere, there is no more concern. “In case of making investments in right direction, an enormous profit will be received. What appears to be a problem for us – the mountains and the severe winter, is an opportunity of earning billions of dollars for the Swiss. Consistent steps must be undertaken toward that direction. We must move forward not slowly, but we must be able to involve large investments through a right strategy,” the minister concluded.
