A workshop on EU regional policy conducted in Vanadzor

VANADZOR, FEBRUARY 19, ARMENPRESS: The general description of the institutions of the European Union, its main policy and the nature of EU-Armenia relations were presented in a workshop entitled “The Regional Policy and Regional Development Tools of the European Union” held today in Vanadzor municipality.
An emphasis was put on territorial development tools and their possible application in the region. The organizers of the workshop – Armenian-European Center for Political and Legal Consultation (AEPLAC) and Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration, invited representatives of the governor offices of Shirak, Lori, Tavush and Gegharkunik, local self-governing bodies and non-governmental organizations.
“It is desirable that heads and employees of local self-governing bodies of Armenia know the functions and policy of the European Union,” Head of the Support Department of the EU delegation in Armenia Uffe Holst Yensen said welcoming the guests.
Expert of the workshop Tigran Chorokhyan presented the EU goals and principles, its structures, made the guests acquainted with the history of Armenia-European Union cooperation.
A similar workshop is organized for the first time. The series of workshops is intended to continue; on that purpose the territory of Armenia has been conditionally divided into southern, central and northern parts.
The participants of the workshop will be thoroughly informed about EU-Armenia relations and prospects of their development. The organizers hope that the workshop will greatly promote the raising of the existing needs on a community level too, improvement of communication between the civil society and state institutions, which in its turn appears to be an important precondition for drafting information and communication realistic strategy of Armenia for the integration to the European Union.
