The 180th anniversary of the repatriation of Western Armenians to be marked in Gegharkunik

GAVAR, FEBRUARY 1, ARMENPRESS: The 180th anniversary of the repatriation of the families emigrated from the Western Armenia to over 5 dozen of settlements of Gegharkunik province will be ceremonially celebrated this year. The celebrations in communities will take place separately, on different days, after spring, as by the testimony of historical sources the Western migrants have settled in the surrounding territory of Lake Sevan not earlier than in the spring of 1830.
Tsalkar community has a bit gone ahead the events, where the day of the village and 180th anniversary were ceremonially celebrated on January 23 of the running year. Head of the community Gvidon Avetisyan told Armenpress that the former Tsalkar people living in the republic and abroad gathered that day and festive events were organized. It is already for two days that January 23 has officially been adopted as a Day of Tsalkar.
