YEREVAN, DECEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS: The tradition of giving presents and addressing wishes has been established by the ancient Romans. The beginning of the tradition is considered to be January 1 of 153 BC. The signs too have developed since then. For example, the ancient Romans considered that in what way you welcome the New Year, in such a way the whole year is continued. For that very reason everybody tried to enjoy that day by putting aside their affairs, wearing beautiful and new dresses. In the island of Crete the first person who entered somebody’s home, brought a huge stone with him/her, put on the ground, sat beside it and addressed wishes. His/her conclusive speech was as follows, “Let gold in the size of this stone enters your home”. One of the signs dating back to the ancient times is that if a person sees a New Year tree in dream, he/she must get ready for marriage and in case of a green fir-tree - the year will be reach in successes and pleasures.
