A public monitoring on the process of distributing apartments to homeless people of the disaster zone being implemented

GYUMRI, DECEMBER 21, ARMENPRESS: The program on “a public monitoring on the rights’ defense of the homeless people of the disaster zone and on the process of distributing apartments” has been implementing since December 1 by “Shirak Center” NGO within the frameworks of the grant project of the Armenian branch of the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation. Project Coordinator Vahan Tumasyan said at the meeting with journalists that the program is focused on four goals; making homeless people competent about the rights and the process of distributing apartments, a defense of profits and rights of homeless people, a conduction of a monitoring on the apartments’ distribution, a study of the process of distributing apartments and a preparation of a package of proposals directed toward improvement. In order to ensure the transparency of the process of distributing apartments the lists of people who are to receive apartments will be periodically published by the local television, and the results of the conducted monitoring and the whole information will be extended to journalists. An electronic chart of Gyumri’s domic’s settlements has been designed within the frameworks of the program, which is placed in the organization’s website. “I am sure that there will be no case, which is revealed and does not become a subject for society’s competence”, V. Tumasyan noted. The program will be implemented by September of 2010.
