RUSSIAN RAILWAYS EXPECTS TO RETURN TO TALKS OVER RESUMPTION OF DIRECT RUSSIA-ARMENIA RAILWAY LINK ACROSS ABKHAZIA

YEREVAN, JUNE 28, ARMENPRESS:Russian Railways Company president Vladimir Yakunin said he expects Russia and Georgia to return to talks over resumption of direct Russia-Armenia railway link across Georgia’s Abkhazia. The process was halted some time ago because of political reasons. “Three years ago we launched talks with Georgians and Armenians over possibilities of resumption of direct Russia-Armenia railway link across Abkhazia. The political tension that escalated at that time between Russia and Georgia disrupted the talks. Now the process seems to have consolidated and we are going to return to this subject,” Vladimir Yakunin told Russian RIA news agency. In a reference to possible restoration of railway link between Azerbaijan and Armenia Yakunin said the Russian side is seeking to develop a solution that would be acceptable, from the political perspective, to all. He said after taking over Armenian Railways for concessional management the Russian Railways promised to do everything possible to end Armenia’s transport blockade.
