YEREVAN, DECEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS:Foreign minister Vartan Oskanian met today in Yerevan with Peter Semneby, a Swedish diplomat who is the special representative of the European Union to the South Caucasus, to discuss Armenia-EU relationships with a focus on implementation of a Plan of Actions Armenia signed within the frameworks of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP). The foreign ministry said a special reference was made to forthcoming parliamentary elections due in 2007 May with an emphasis that the polls must comply with standards of free and just election. Oskanian was reported to reconfirm Armenian authorities’ pledges to conduct just elections and invite international observers. Oskanian was said to also brief Semneby on the results of his December 17 visit to Tehran. Later in the day Semneby was received by president Robert Kocharian, who was quoted by his press office as saying that Armenia’s relationships with the European Union were entering a new more coordinated stage.
