YEREVAN, JANUARY 28, ARMENPRESS:The Armenian company Cigaronne, producer of elite cigarettes, accused one of the biggest cigarette producers in the world - the German Reemstma company of using dishonest competition methods. Karen Adonts, general director of Cigaronne, told a news conference last Friday that the first hearings took place in Amsterdam on 21 January of a suit by the Reemstma company. The Reemstma is accusing Cigaronne of designing its cigarette packs similarly to those of Davidoff packs produced by Reemstma. In particular, according to the suit, only the Davidoff trade mark has the right to use octahedral cigarette packs and Cigaronne has no right to use this design. Besides that, Cigaronne is being charged with using colors, which are similar to the colors of Davidoff packs and its trade mark. The main purpose of this trial is to keep Cigaronne products out of the Benelux countries° market, Adonts thinks. Commenting on the charges, Karen Adonts stated that the equipment for packing cigarettes in an octahedral pack was provided by the German company Focke, which received a patent to produce octahedral packs in 1986. Touching on the similarity in the color of packs, Adonts said that packs of Davidoff cigarettes come in almost all colors and if Cigaronne packages were not black, but white or other colors, Reemstma may have brought a suit in any case, but it does not mean that the company has the right to all colors. Cigaronne regards all these charges as groundless because Cigaronne cigarettes differ from others because of the technology of their cigarette filters, the like of which exists nowhere else.
