Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hosted around 30 teachers from several schools in Yerevan and the regions at the government headquarters.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Pashinyan welcomed those present and, through them, congratulated all teachers on Teachers’ Day, thanking them for their dedicated daily work.
The prime minister said such meetings were important because they provided an opportunity to hear directly about issues in the sector.
Pashinyan also discussed the results of introducing the voluntary teacher certification system, which enables teachers to receive higher salaries and additional payments. He stressed that there were plans to make certification periodic and further increase the salary rate.
“This decision is about expressing our appreciation for your work, but there is also another very important issue: the teaching profession must become more attractive to young people. I believe this certification system should operate on a periodic basis,” he said.
Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan also congratulated the teachers on Teachers’ Day and thanked them for their work supporting the development of many children.
In her remarks, the minister discussed an important legislative initiative in the government’s new programme: a law on the status of teachers, with particular emphasis on housing support. According to the minister, this would provide an additional tool to help both current teachers and young people choosing the profession feel more secure.
The meeting addressed the continuous development of professional skills, improvements to schools’ physical infrastructure and the provision of an appropriate educational environment.
The teachers expressed their gratitude for the various programmes introduced by the government in recent years and the ongoing reforms in education.
