Armenia’s electoral commission system remained operational despite serious cyberattack, says chief

The Central Electoral Commission’s (CEC) system remained operational throughout the process of tabulating the results of Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections despite coming under a serious cyberattack, CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan said Thursday.

“The entire process proceeded continuously,” he said in parliament. “During the stage of tabulating the voting results, our system came under a serious attack. Armenia’s best cybersecurity specialists, including our international expert partners, were engaged in preventing and repelling the cyberattack.”

According to him, despite the attack, the CEC system did not stop functioning at any point.

“Fortunately, our system did not stop for even one minute, and the data received from the polling stations was immediately published,” the CEC chairman said.
