NATO is not conducting demining operations in the Strait of Hormuz but is closely monitoring the situation, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said during a visit to Berlin. A video of his remarks was published by The Associated Press.
“This is outside NATO territory. Of course, we are monitoring what is happening, and NATO countries are closely coordinating their actions. There is an important Franco-British initiative. Some countries, for example Latvia, Lithuania and others, are taking an active role. They are not putting their people at risk, but they are helping, for example, with demining. Everything is taking place in cooperation with the United States. It is not a NATO mission, but we are monitoring and helping wherever possible,” Rutte said.
