US President Donald Trump has said that Canada’s economy could collapse if the country’s political leadership continues to portray him as an “enemy”. Trump made the remarks in a post on the Truth Social social media platform, responding to statements by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
“It’s great for Canadian politicians like Prime Minister Mark Carney to make President Donald Trump the ‘enemy’ until their economy collapses. Then it will be very bad for politics — worse than anything that has ever happened to any Canadian politician. Just watch,” Trump wrote.
Trade relations between the United States and Canada have deteriorated sharply in recent weeks. In August, Washington imposed 50% tariffs on around $20 billion worth of Canadian goods. In response, Canada announced retaliatory tariffs on US goods. They are due to take effect on September 8.
