Court decision on Gagik Tsarukyan’s preventive measure to be announced on September 4

The court’s decision on the preventive measure imposed on businessman and Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan will be announced on September 4, his lawyer Emin Khachatryan told reporters.
On September 3, the prosecution’s motion to extend Tsarukyan’s detention was examined at the Avan and Nor Nork seat of the Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction of the First Instance of Yerevan.
Gagik Tsarukyan was detained on July 7, 2026. The Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction of the First Instance of Yerevan had granted a motion by the body conducting the proceedings to impose detention on him for two months as a preventive measure.
Criminal prosecution of Tsarukyan began in early July. Law enforcement bodies carried out searches at Tsarukyan’s residence, as well as at numerous companies and other premises linked to him and his family. Tsarukyan was subsequently detained and brought before the court.
Gagik Tsarukyan has been charged with fraud and money laundering on an especially large scale. A charge of tax evasion was later added to the acts attributed to him in the case.
