Levon Movsisyan has been appointed deputy minister of economy by a decision of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The decree was published by the government on Wednesday.
Movsisyan was appointed alongside Tigran Gasparyan, who was also named deputy minister of economy by a separate decision.
Movsisyan, 38, holds a DPhil/PhD from the University of Oxford, where he studied from 2011 to 2014. His research focused on supramolecular chemistry and new allotropes of carbon. He also holds a pharmacist qualification from Yerevan State Medical University, which he earned in 2010.
From October 2024 to January 2025, Movsisyan served as Program Manager II at ICON Bioanalytical Laboratories in Assen, the Netherlands. From August 2022 to August 2024, he was a Program Manager and Senior Scientist at ZoBio in the Netherlands, where he was responsible for international drug-discovery programs and led multidisciplinary teams.
From November 2021 to July 2022, he worked as a Senior Scientist at Symeres in the Netherlands. From February to September 2021, he was a consultant for HVM, a California-based company, working remotely.
From September 2018 to December 2020, Movsisyan was a researcher at the University of Alberta in Canada, where he led the establishment and launch of a new chemistry laboratory and initiated and managed new formulation-development programs.
From January 2016 to April 2018, he was a researcher at ETH Zurich in Switzerland, conducting research focused on the discovery and development of new drug substances and coordinating project work within an international consortium involving academic groups and F. Hoffmann-La Roche.
From November 2014 to September 2015, Movsisyan was a researcher at the University of Oxford, where he coordinated an international research network involving four British and German universities.
He also completed an entrepreneurship training program at STARTUP CAMPUS in Zurich in 2017 and a 10-week entrepreneurship course, “Building a Business,” at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, in 2012-2013. In 2012, he conducted a research visit at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany.
Movsisyan has served as a peer reviewer for international scientific journals and supervised the research projects of around 10 PhD, master’s and bachelor’s students between 2012 and 2020.
He has received the Oxford Raffy Manoukian Scholarship and a scholarship from the Luys Foundation, as well as a bronze medal at the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad. He is the author or co-author of 10 international scientific articles.
