Environment minister briefs Armenian envoys on COP17 preparations

Armenian Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan delivered a presentation titled “COP17: Armenia’s Road to the Biodiversity Conference” for Armenian envoys participating in the annual conference of Armenia’s ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions abroad.

According to a Foreign Ministry readout, Minister Matevosyan presented Armenia’s role as the host and presiding country of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), the strategic priorities of the presidency, and the progress of work toward ensuring an inclusive conference.

He emphasized that the conference to be held in Yerevan in October 2026 is one of the most important events on the global environmental agenda. Representatives of the 196 Parties to the Convention will participate, and COP17 will be preceded by a Leaders’ Summit.

Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan presented the work carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic service bodies in preparing for the conference and in negotiations on the documents being developed.

The Minister of Environment and the Deputy Foreign Minister answered questions from those present.

Armenia’s annual ambassadorial assembly started last week in Gyumri. President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan delivered opening remarks on the first day.
