Armenia’s Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan and Deputy Minister Arman Khojoyan held a meeting with Omar AlShamsi, founder and CEO of Watermelon Ecosystem, on August 27.
The ministry said in a readout that Omar AlShamsi presented the activities of Watermelon Ecosystem, a platform founded in the UAE that brings together restaurants, food suppliers, producers and farmers, offering digital procurement and supply chain management solutions.
During the meeting, the possibilities of cooperation and implementation of investment programs, expanding opportunities for the export of Armenian products, as well as establishing connections between Armenian producers and buyers and distributors in the UAE and other international markets were discussed.
Gevorg Papoyan presented the investments made in Armenia’s agricultural sector in recent years and production capacities that meet international standards, emphasizing in particular the expansion of access to international markets for small and medium-sized producers.
At the end of the meeting, the sides signed a memorandum of understanding, which will create an opportunity to organize the long-term and sustainable export of fresh fruits and vegetables from Armenia.
The export of fresh fruits and vegetables is expected to start as early as next month, initially in volumes of up to 40 tons per week.
