Armenia, Bulgaria discuss environmental cooperation ahead of COP17

Armenia’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Tsovinar Hambardzumyan met with Bulgaria’s Minister of Environment and Water Rositsa Karamfilova.

According to the embassy readout, the possibilities for developing bilateral cooperation in the areas of environment, climate change and sustainable development were discussed.

The sides emphasized the traditionally good and friendly relations established between the two countries, as well as the importance of the historical and cultural ties between the two peoples.

During the meeting, the key importance of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership signed in May was emphasized, which creates an additional basis for further deepening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

The Minister noted that Bulgaria is ready to share its experience and expertise as a member state of the European Union in the process of Armenia’s approximation to European standards and the implementation of European legislation.

It is noted that the topics discussed also included the potential for cooperation in a regional format, including through the Organization of Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

Ambassador Hambardzumyan presented in detail the progress of preparations for COP17, its main directions and priorities, with particular emphasis on the importance of Bulgaria’s active participation. At the same time, the Ambassador presented the priority of biodiversity conservation and restoration for Armenia.

Minister Karamfilova congratulated Armenia on the preparations and upcoming hosting in Yerevan of the Seventeenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), emphasizing the importance of active participation in global processes and multilateral formats to achieve common goals in the field of nature conservation.

The sides expressed their readiness to continue the dialogue on topics of mutual interest.
